"Personally, I didn't expect it. After giving up in Cincinnati, I hoped he could return to the US Open. The fact that he can't make it is a sign that the problem could be serious and I'm very sorry about that".
US Open in New York unmöglich macht.
Sinner verpasst die US Open
"I think there are some questions to be asked. There are too many injuries, there is a lot of stake, perhaps because of the lot of money at stake. Something must be done, in my opinion. Sinner had already stopped in Paris and last year he had to withdraw from the Cincinnati final against Carlos Alcaraz due to another problem. There are many players who have been injured, they play too much and the calendar is full. We need to slow down for a moment. All this does not mean that the players have managed themselves badly, also because the two best are masters in these. But when you push hard, you pay the bill in the end," erklärte die frühere Nummer 18 der Weltrangliste.
"Since it was said that he could not win a Slam, with all these defections, he managed to conquer Roland Garros, it must be said deservedly," sagte Camporese.
"And, now, he has another great chance. As does Flavio Cobolli who is playing really well. Not forgetting the hosts such as Ben Shelton and Taylor Fritz. Then, we can expect everything from Alcaraz, because he has enormous talent. I find it difficult for him to win the tournament, but I hope he comes back great, because tennis needs him."
