Die Saison hatte mit zwei Titeln in den ersten beiden Monaten vielversprechend begonnen, nahm anschließend jedoch eine andere Wendung.

Medwedew erklärt, warum er derzeit eine so schwierige Phase durchlebt: "It's not easy at all, because the difficult thing in tennis is when you're looking for confidence. And the point is that everyone in the top hundred knows how to play tennis. As soon as you lower your level a little bit, for whatever reason — double faults or forehand errors — they'll take advantage of it, because they're good players. You have to be at your best level to prove that you're a top 10 player capable of beating a lot.

If you want to win a Grand Slam, you have to be at your best level for three, four, five sets and everything. I haven't been able to do that exactly in the last few tournaments and that's why I lost. It's that simple. Obviously I'm looking for solutions, but the change is quick and it's not like I have four weeks of training on the court to try things. I love New York, I love the US Open, so I'm going to give everything, I'm going to fight hard and I'm going to try to bring my best tennis to the court."

Medwedew will Wiedergutmachung

Über Alcaraz sagte Medwedew: "Obviously we don't know the details of the injury he had," Medvedev said about Alcaraz, "but I think, if he's here and he tries to play, it means that he and his team have confidence that the wrist injury won't get worse. Maybe for the body as a whole it's different, because he's been out for a long time, but probably not for the wrist, if he's healed by now. It will be interesting to see how he reacts if he has a very tough match. If he feels pain, he could retire at any time. It's very nice to see him here and see him play. If I have the opportunity, I'll definitely watch his match. Also, he's playing against my friend Roman Safiullin, so it will be interesting. I hope he doesn't feel any pain and that he can play freely."

US Open ohne Sinner offener: "If you're Arthur Fils or Sascha Zverev maybe you think you have a better chance without Jannik and maybe with Carlos who is not yet 100%. I just want to find my game and get through a few rounds. I'm not thinking of anything crazy. But, generally speaking, anyone who can play two good weeks has a better chance when Jannik is not here, because when he is there it is a huge challenge to be able to beat him. Not many players have managed to do that this year. So, obviously, the draw is more open than before."
